6. BARRIER-FREE BEIJING

According to “Wired’s blog network,” disabled travelers to Beijing, China have much to celebrate. Thanks to the recent Olympics’ modernization efforts, the city now has a wheelchair accessible subway that includes barrier-free entrances and exits at 123 of its stations, as well as helpful subway workers to help travelers reach their desired destinations. A special hotline is also available to request advance assistance at the stations.

In addition, 2000 kneeling buses are now on-line, which should prove a boon to wheelchair users. Guide dogs are also welcome aboard all public transit now. Learn more at http://blog.wired.com/cars/2008/09/barrier-free-be.html
